Welcome to the newsletter, Blockheads!

Isla’s Departure

Isla McLaughlin, famed Block Party Co-Founder and Chapbook Managing Editor, has stepped down from her roles to focus on school and work. Going forward, Joseph (me), will be taking over all our shenanigans.

I wish Isla the absolute best of luck and urge everyone to congratulate her on all she’s done with Block Party and all she does in the future.

You rock, Isla!

Magazine

Good news, bad news.

Good news: The magazine is absolutely still operating, though I’ll only be publishing one issue a year in October. Also, submissions will only be accepted from people living / working in Ontario for two reasons:

  • I want to focus my efforts on local talent;

  • Last issue we received 600 submissions and I simply do not have the time to review that many on my own, though I appreciate the engagement.

Bad news: Just kidding, there is no bad news! Tricked ya!

“Don’t care, didn’t ask. Where’s the next issue?”

First of all, lower your voice. Then, stay tuned… Follow Block Party on Instagram @blockpartymag for updates and, in the meantime, read over the submission guidelines. The next theme will be announced very soon.

Chapbooks

I’ll be saying farewell to physical chapbook publishing, at least for now.

That being said, I’m inspired by ryan fitzpatrick’s MODEL PRESS and their digital chapbook publishing. It’s something I am definitely hoping to explore in the future, but give me a chance to get settled first, then I’ll give you some more info on that endeavour.

That’s all for now!

Thanks so much for signing up for this little newsletter! I’m planning about one a month, though that is subject to change and you are always welcome to unsubscribe below, I promise not to hate you for it.

Have a wonderful, wonderful July you little freaks!
